Haiti - CARICOM : Partnership agreement project in the press sector

Following the holding in Haiti of the last Summit of Heads of State and Government, which ended February 19, the Haitian Press Federation (FPH), stated that a partnership is envisaged this weekend with the Federation of Press Workers of CARICOM countries, in favor of Regional Press Associations of Haiti.

According to the President of the Haitian Press Federation, Ady Jean Gardy, the objectives pursued aim to :

  • Promote professional relationships between the Press associations of the various geographical departments of Haiti and the organizations that militate in favor of the free exercise of the profession in the Caribbean countries of CARICOM ;

  • Encourage research on the priorities of Press Workers of the Caribbean ;

  • Strengthen the training of journalists, by an intensive program of scholarships in the Caribbean universities and schools starting with provincial journalists ;

  • Fight against violations of freedom of the press in all countries of the region ;

  • Work in a common way, for the construction of democracy and of development in Haiti and CARICOM countries.

Several federations, associations and media groups in the Caribbean, will this weekend, laying the foundation for this cooperation to finalize a broad partnership, with the independent press in the CARICOM region.
