Thursday, February 28, the young Haitian Foundation for the Rehabilitation and Development (FHRD), created in May 2010, will proceed with the opening of its second project of social housing construction « Village Montebelluna Bassano »

Affected by the testimony of the priest Scalabrinian Italian who worked in Haiti for many years, some benefactors of "Montebelluna" and "Bassano" two cities in north-eastern Italy, located in the Veneto region, a few kilometers from Venice, are passed from words to deeds, through the funding of 26 cooperative housing for families of Croix-des-Bouquets.

Beneficiaries selected according to predetermined criteria by the FHRD attended ten workshops to raise awareness on the environment, the regulations of village and maintenance of houses to facilitate coexistence. Tenants, at first, paying a rent adapted to their economic situation, the beneficiaries of the Village "Montebelluna Bassano" become owners after 10 years. This philosophy of the FHRD, is part of its mission to promote the spirit of cooperation in order to help people to be the protagonists of their own development.

The houses, with an area of ​​45 m2, have 2 bedrooms, a toilet and a multipurpose room. According to the engineer Isaac Xavier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the the FHRD, beneficiary members have learned to know each other, share ideas, develop regulations for a harmonious life in the community through training workshops. The Foundationis not intended only the housing construction, but also and especially the building of communities. With its motto "Building the future together", the FHRD wishes, according to its statutes, to develop a spirit of solidarity between the citizens and the civil society, and sensitize them to their social responsibility, facing the future of their heritage. The FHRD is in the process of a sustainable development through the participation of citizens in the protection of the environment and spatial planning.
