The National School Nurse midwives, of Port-au-Prince, destroyed during the January 2010 earthquake has been reconstructed in Cité Soleil and will provide from this month, a specialization training of 18 months, to the nurses who wish to become midwives. In addition, the National Institute of Higher Education of Midwives, a new institution, will provide a comprehensive education, to train in 3 years new midwives.

Work began in October 2012 with the demolition of the building that housed the old laboratory and housing of residents of the maternity Isaïe Jeanty of Cité Soleil. This work included the site preparation and the construction of three prefabricated buildings to accommodate the two training centers, within this maternity. This project, initiated at the request of the Ministry of Health, was funded to the tune of 117,000 U.S. dollars by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) and conducted jointly by the engineers of the Minustah and UNFPA.
