Haiti - Agriculture : The beekeeping and aquaculture receive government assistance
The Ministry of Agriculture has indicated that a project "Support to the development of beekeeping", in the subsector of beekeeping production will be launched during the month of March, in the municipalities of Aquin, Tiburon, Marigot and Ouanaminthe.

This project will enable recipient organizations to have thepossibility of developing beekeeping in their respective municipality, increasing both the number of hives, their performance and the quality of honey with modern methods.

The project has four main components :

  • Organizational support ;
  • Formation ;
  • Installation of the station and distribution of bee hives for beekeepers;
  • Support for the promotion of beekeeping in the town of Aquin.

An amount of 10 million gourdes was approved for each of the four municipalities in the implementation of these activities during fiscal year 2012-2013.

In addition, as part of Emergency Program, established by the government to help the victims of passage of Sandy, the Ministry of Agriculture, through the Directorate "Fisheries and Aquaculture" proceeded to the rehabilitation of the Fish Culture Station of Damien. 80% of the work started in November 2012, are already completed and include : the redevelopment of 6 producing basins, 4 hatches ponds, 3 concrete tanks for breeding, a barn of 60 m2, the partial fence of the station, the redevelopment of the system of water supply and drainage system and of electricity supply.
