Haiti - Politic : Strengthening of the energy sector

Monday, René Jean Jumeau, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for energy security, and Lucien Francoeur, the Secretary-General of the Primature, have co-chaired to the Primature, an important working meeting around the strengthening of the energy sector, to which took part the representatives of Cuba, Venezuela and Ecuador, members of the delegation of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) [to which Haiti is a member] and representatives of the Spanish Institute IDAE (Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía), on a mission in the country since March 17, 2013.

During the meeting, various proposals for the redynamization and a better structuring of the energy sector have been made. They concern among others, the support for the finalization of the Government's energy policy, the training of human resources and the evaluation of the electrical system in the country.

Lucien Francoeur recalled that in its General Policy Statement, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe had placed the energy at the heart of the development policy of Haiti and stressed that the Administration Martelly-Lamothe that makes the energy sector one of its priorities, is committed to strengthening the tripartite partnership public-private-donor in order to provide electricity to the population at a rate acceptable.

Following this meeting, the representatives of Cuba, Venezuela and Ecuador within the OODALE have reiterated their commitment to continue their cooperation with Haiti and to identify better perspectives as part of this partnership.
