Haiti - Culture : The Minister of Culture listening Raras leaders of Léogâne
Each year during Holy Week, Leogane became the seat of a competition to choose the best Rara of the region. This week, Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture, met Jean Saintamant Anicé, eputy Mayor of Léogâne, Jean Carlo Désilus, Secretary General of the Union of Raras of Léogâne (URAL) and Engineer Guston Jean Louis, a representative of the private sector in this city. The meeting took place around the organization of this popular festival, which takes place during the period of Lent this year around the theme "Rebwazman se zafè rara".

Rara specialists consider this popular event, as one of the bases of the slave revolt. In this context, the rara represented both an entertainment and a fighting tool.

Have also participated in the meeting: Stefan Malebranche, the Director General of the Ministry of Culture Maryse Noël, Director of the Ministry of Tourism Elsa Baussan Noel, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic and Albert Chancy Advisor to the President. Were also present Mrs Geneviève Louissaint member of cabinet of the President of the Republic, Ernst Dorfeuille, the representative of the Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and Joachim Fritz, the representative of Public Security.

In addition, Monday, March 25 as part of this feast of Rara, the documentary (40 min) "Rara de Léogâne" of Jean-François Chalut, 1990 will be screened at 3:00 pm at the media library "Kay mizik la" 27, avenue John Brown, Lalue, Port-au-Prince. This movie traces the path mystical of the various raras from Holy Friday until Easter Monday. The houngan Louisant Ferdinand, explains the place of Voodoo in rara, the role of the participants and the competitive spirit that animates them. The screening will be followed by a conference of Ronald Joseph Dautruche on "Rara: between tradition and change."
