Haiti - Social : The Sun illuminates the Nights in Haiti
33 streetlights [22 solar streetlights including 11 double] will finally bring the necessary lighting on the Place of Canape Vert, every night in the dark. These streetlights adapted to the environment of the site are made entirely in Haiti, following the lighting design developed by Électriciens sans Frontières (ESF).

In response to the request of the mayor of Port-au-Prince to secure the users of the Place and prolong the economic activity on the site, motorcycle taxi, tap tap, and small traders, ESF, the City of Paris and the city of Montreal, have solicited the Haitian company ENERSA, to reproduce a similar light as the Place Saint Pierre in Petion-ville.

"We did not wish see this Place lit by products manufactured abroad," declared Marc Charret, Head of ESF program in Haiti, adding "we have installed since 2010 nearly 1,000 solar streetlights in the area, today the mission of lighting must take into account aesthetic criteria and the Haitian expertise in terms of lighting, security, and sustainability of facilities."

Our lighting program will now run in the neighborhood of Baillergeau, we just finished with GRET and UN WOMEN, 4 months of study and participatory consultations of the population to illuminate pedestrian areas [dead ends and corridors], 70 streetlights will be subject to a bid responding to a set of specifications. We want permanent installations, and each lamp is subject to a maintenance contract providing 10 years of operation without financial implications for the municipality.

Moreover, earlier this month, as part of a global project of prevention of gender-based violence, Marie Yannick Mézile, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF), proceeded at the inauguration of 190 solar streetlights spread across its various streets in Morne Lazarre, a neighborhood of Petion-ville. This project of installation of streetlights in its third phase, extending over ten sites, camps and neighborhoods included recalled the Minister. Furthermore Morne Lazarre, Villa Rosa, Morne Ebo, Bois Patate et Jean Baptiste located at Canapé Vert, Camp Corail and Camp Village Nouvelle Vie in Croix-des-Bouquets, Camp Erabe in Carrefour and Camp Dahomey in Delmas, are among other areas the beneficiaries of this project.
