Haiti - Politic : Return of President Martelly in Haiti 26/03/2013 09:37:47
Monday, the President Michel Martelly returned home after his official tour from 20 to 24 March, in Guyana [Cooperative Republic of Guyana, formerly British Guiana] and Suriname, within the context of follow-up of the 24th Intersessional Meeting of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of CARICOM held on February 18 and 19 in Haiti. In Guyana, where he was initially warmly received the President Martelly and his counterpart Donald Ramotar, after fruitful discussions on, inter alia, agriculture, eco-tourism, trade, education and food security, reached to obtain a better understanding of the realities of their respective countries. In Suriname, the Head of State and his counterpart, Mr. Désiré Bouterse, have discussed of the issue of traceability, cooperation in the area of rice production, participation of Haiti in CARIFESTA 2013, of the migration, the movement of Haitians and the upcoming opening of a Consulate of Haiti in Paramaribo. This visit was very important in the extent that it allowed the President of the Republic to ensure, on the one hand, of the commitment of President Desire Bouterse in the realization of project on traceability of agricultural products at the Caribbean Common Market ; and on the other hand, of the willingness of his counterpart in Suriname to regularize the situation of Haitian nationals living illegally in this country. This official tour allowed the President Martelly, to strengthen ties of cooperation between Haiti, Guyana and Suriname. During these visits, the Head of State did not fail to promote investment and boast business opportunities in Haiti. See also : HL/ HaitiLibre
