Haiti - Culture: 6th edition of «Destination Aquin-Festival International Traditional Music and Dance» 30/03/2013 12:37:12
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the event brings together more than one hundred artists from various backgrounds and continents. It challenges different civilizations and invites you to travel, sharing, exchange, to the encounter of ourselves and of our traditions, to the encounter of other peoples and other cultures. Participating in the official opening of the festival, Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture has welcomed this initiative of the Aquin Solidarity Foundation, which brought so much energy around the Haitian culture, one of the main drivers of socio-economic development of the Nation "You have won a bet that required the mobilization of all in order to provide a better future for the destination," declared the Minister, who reiterated the Government's commitment to work tirelessly in order to back Haiti in its position of "Pearl of the Antilles".  Opening Address by Minister Darguste : "Madam the President of the Aquin Solidarity Foundation; Distinguished Members of the Foundation; Dear friends of the festival Destination Aquin, The event that brings us here alone symbolizes the desire within us all, that of enhancing our country through its culture which alone has the ability to mobilize the most diverse energies, to boost in an exceptional way a town and beyond a region but also to federate, to unify by giving meaning. I am especially pleased because this event unites the culture and tourism at the time where, in the Caribbean world, culture stands out as one of the main windows of socio-economic development of nations. Indeed, 6 years, Destination Aquin presents itself as a cultural buffet in which music, dance, crafts, theater, visual arts, Gastronomy is invented, is reinvent themselves for three days of tasting of flavors with unforgettable scent. My presence here today, allow me to found that Aquin, gateway to the south coast of Haiti, opens to the world and reveals itself to visitors in its natural charms, in good host. Mother Nature has provided Haiti with a beauty like no other: it is an asset that provides a place of choice in the Tourism Industry in the Caribbean ! Cultural wealth of Haitian, know-how and the commitment of Government Martelly-Lamothe within which I serve the Nation is working to back Haiti in its position of Pearl of the Antilles. The festival, which takes place under the theme 'The wink to Africa', honors the memory of one of the champions of negritude, Aimé Césaire. He would have celebrated its centenary this year. The event also commended the work and life of this 'importante/small' lady of the dance, especially folk dances of Haiti, Viviane Gauthier. All this to signify that us, the son and daughters of Haiti remain joint to the alma mater, that the exile in the land of America has forged ties with our brothers in the Caribbean and finally our identity of Haitian is revealed in the power of our art and our being. Behalf of the Government, I welcome the friends of Congo, those of Niger and Côte d'Ivoire. I thank all those who come from afar to communicate at this cultural table. Destination Aquin is now positioned as a large cultural event of the year. Congratulations to the Foundation Aquin Solidarity ! My words of gratitude go to the other Partners both International as National who knew recognize the cultural values incomparable of Haiti. Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, members of the Foundation Aquin you won the Bet which required the mobilization of all, to provide a better future for the Destination. Be congratulated.
