Haiti - Tourism : Touristic taxation taxation and grievances...

Monday, a new working session of the Advisory Council of Tourism (CCT), chaired by Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin the Minister of Tourism, was held at the Ministry of Tourism. This session of CCT was organized around issues of touristic taxation and gathering of grievances of certain tourism stakeholders.

Legislative measures, designed to relieve and encourage investment in the tourism sector are to be considered according to some members of the CCT who complain about the current Haitian system of taxation. The taxation on events and taxation at border were at the center of these discussions.

In order to assist stakeholders, the Ministry, in the new legislative agenda of the Government, intends to incorporate other bills to boost tourism. Meanwhile, the Legal Counsel of the MDT, support the idea of ​​the release of a circular of the Ministry of Economy and Finance for more details on these tax measures implemented.

Moreover, in addition to this working session, representatives of airlines, restaurants and travel agencies have submitted their grievances to this multi-sectoral table. The Minister Villedrouin has promised to transmit them to the necessary authorities, for solutions.

Meanwhile, Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture, announced two major events : the holding in Haiti of the 6th Summit of Ministers of Culture of the Western Hemisphere in August 2014 and CARIFESTA in 2015. Events that benefit the hotel industry and contribute to improving the image of Haiti.

At the end of the work session, the Minister of Tourism, announced some projects of the Ministry including the establishment of the Tourist Police, who will ensure surveillance of sites and tourist facilities.
