Haiti - Technology : Technical Support of Brasil for the next Census

As part of the cooperation between the Government of Brazil and the Government of Haiti, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Information of Haiti (IHSI), with the support of Office of the United Nations Fund for Population in Haiti (UNFPA), have signed a technical partnership for the implementation of the 5th census of the population of Haiti in 2014.

Wednesday, under this agreement, Maria Vilma Salles Garcia, Operations Coordinator at IBGE, proceeded to the delivery of 300 PDA [Personal Digital Assistance], lent to IHSI for the realization of the mapping and the updating of map data dating back to 2003. The Ambassador of Brazil, Jose Luiz Machado Costa and Ramiz Alakbarov, UNFPA Representative in Haiti, also attended the ceremony with Danilia Altidor, the Director General of IHSI.

A technical team from the IBGE carries out a formation [11 to 19 April], for executives of the IHSI regarding the use of the PDA.

In addition, Brazil will provide technical and material support in all planned steps to carry out the census in Haiti. Among these supports include the loan of approximately 20,000 PDA in order to allow the rapid implementation of the census ; the software development and training in their use, aimed at creating a database, enabling the efficient use of census information.
