Haiti - Religion : Last tribute to Mgr. Ligondé

Saturday, the President Michel Martelly, participated in the funeral of Mgr. François Marie Wolf Ligondé in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Turgeau.

During the first part of the ceremony, the Head of State "meditated" before the remains of the first Haitian Archbishop, exposed at College St Francis of Assisi. Then, accompanied among others, by the President of the Senate, the President of the Court of Cassation, members of the Government, the Apostolic Nuncio, he followed the funeral procession to the parish of the Sacred Heart of Turgeau, where takes place the second part of the funeral.

In his homily for the occasion, the principal celebrant, Mgr. Guyr Poulard, traced the path of the deceased during his ecclesiastical career and presented the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Mgr. Ligondé, as a humanist and philanthropist unusual.

Born 17 January 1928 in Les Cayes, Mgr. Ligondé was professor at the Collège Saint Louis of Jérémie before being sent to Fribourg (Switzerland), for his studies. His Holiness Pope Paul VI appointed him as Archbishop of Port-au-Prince on August 20, 1966. From January 1991, he had no pastoral administration of the Archdiocese, but he remained Archbishop until February 2008. Died April 8 at the Hospital of the Fathers Camillians April 8, 2013, his disappearance leaves a great void in the Church.

On behalf of the Executive and the Haitian people, the Head of State reiterated his condolences to the family and friends of Mgr. Ligondé who has spent more than forty years of his life to defend the cardinal values ​​and contribute to the emergence of a Haitian society more just and equitable.
