Haiti - Football : The FIFA President, promises to Strengthen the Haitian Football
In visit to Haiti since Monday, for 48 hours, Joseph S. Blatter, President of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) promised to strengthen the football infrastructure in the country by the establishment of a special commission, which will be able to provide the impetus whose football needs in Haiti.

On Tuesday, the President Michel Martelly, received Joseph S. Blatter at the National Palace. This meeting took place particularly in the presence of Ministers of Youth and Sports, Public Health, Culture, of FIFA General Secretary and of President of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association (CONCACAF).

In his talks with M. Blatter, the President Martelly insisted on the efforts of his administration in the field of football and his disenchantment with the progress of the Haitian football. The President Martelly has also clarified how important it is to continue to invest in Haiti's most popular sport. "The construction of sports facilities and the training of coaches are important in the development of football in Haiti."

For his part, the President of FIFA, satisfied of substantive discussions on the Haitian football has considered appropriate the creation of a commission to develop a plan of action over 25 years to develop a unified group comprising members of FIFA, CONCACAF, of the Haitian Football Federation and of government. A decision welcomed by the Head of State.

In a speech delivered at Sylvio Cator stadium, Blatter has outlined his plan to help the football in Haiti "We came here to support Haiti in its efforts to rebuild the football in the country after the earthquake of January 2010 [...] There is so much talent in this country. We must do more to ensure that this talent can express. The will of the Haitian President is there, and we decided together to create a working group, which by the end of the year should develop a plan to revive the Haitian football."

An announcement that has satisfied Jeffrey Webb, President of CONCACAF, which did not fail to see the real potential of the project "Today marks a turning point for the CONCACAF and Haiti [...] When we join forces with football and governments, we can get more investment for our sport."



Following the investment received by Haiti, the President Martelly expressed his passion for the reconstruction of the capacity of country to play football. He also stressed on how sport can help the country outside the ground. "In Haiti, we love football. I'm a big fan and a former player, and we must make an effort in our country for the Haitian football back to the forefront in our region [...] The Government supports the football and we will focus on infrastructure. We have already built more than 40 stadiums over the past two years. We must give our youth the opportunity, because football has so many positive aspects, not only as a sport, but also in terms of education and health."

The President Blatter echoes in the same direction stating that "[...] education and development programs are the foundation of football. We need to bring football in schools and for this we need the support of governments. We need to train educators [...] At FIFA, we will continue to support Haiti as we have done so far [...]"
