Haiti - Economy : 8th edition of the exhibition «Women, Production and Creation 2013»
The Ministry of Culture participated this week at the official launch of the 8th edition of the annual salon of the production and creativity "Women, Production and Creation 2013". Fashion, home decor, handmade jewelry and accessories, commercial products, as many sectors that will be presented to visitors on 11 and 12 May in the Karibe Convention Center.

Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture, was represented for the launch by Ms. Rose Mary Saliba, a member of his cabinet, who welcomed the initiative of the Foundation "Voix Essentielles-Femme en Démocratie" that promotes the political leadership and entrepreneurship and creativity of Haitian women.

Indeed, recalled Mary Saliba, the Ministry has a duty to encourage or to come in support to actions aimed to the production, the creation of all that fall in the broad field of culture. This explains the support of the Ministry for this initiative through the Support Program for Strengthening of Culture and Art for Economic and Social Development (ARCADE).

Speech of the Minister Darguste, read by its representative, Mary Saliba :
"Madam President of Women in Democracy;
Madam the Manager of program ARCADES;
Mr. the Responsible for the programming of the European Union;
Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Ministry of Culture, with funds made available to the Haitian government by the European Union under the program ARCADES, is appy to proceed with the Foundation 'Fondation Voix essentielles - Femme en Démocratie' and the operational structure of ARCADES, to the launch of the 8th edition of the fair 'Women, Production and Creation'.

It is our duty to the Ministry of Culture, to encourage or come in support to actions aimed to the production, the creation of all that fall in the broad field of culture. Our action, is not limited solely to support these initiatives. It includes the establishment of conditions conducive to the production, supervision and research of the qualification of producers and creators, the promotion in Haiti and outside Haiti of rich and diverse national cultural heritage.

It is equally clear that being a woman, and a member of the Martelly-Lamothe government which may avail himself of great strides in gender parity, we support initiatives that contribute to the development and enhancement of the Haitian woman. There are few, indeed, on 8 March and 1 April, the Ministry of Culture paid tribute to sixteen (16) women writers, including eight (8) posthumously.

In about a month, the multiple and great potential of Haitian woman will find a miniature expression in books, the works and the entrepreneurial capacity of a sample of the real engines of socio-economic life of Haiti.

We therefore salute the efforts and results of the Foundation 'Voix essentielles - Femme en démocratie', which, since September 2000, working on the gradual realization, in Haiti, of the principles of gender equality in the exercise of rights and opportunities, advocated to the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. The first steps taken by the Women's League for Social Action have not been in vain.

At this 8th edition of the Fair, the women will, once again, identify themselves to their art and their knowledge ; not to their face nor the color of their skin. They will not reveal especially in an objective of rivalry with the menbut in that of the true affirmation, that end the old clichés related to the principles of the paterfamilias.

In this Haiti where the single parent families abound, the autonomy of the woman turns a necessity. It ensures the balance of family life, contributes to the economic development ofdevelopment the society and consequently, to the development."
