Haiti - Agriculture : Training in organic farming in the Dominican Republic
15 Haitian farmers of Cerca La Source, Capotille and Ounaminthe and 4 Dominican farmers of communities of Restauración and Capotillo, living in the border areas between the two Republics participated in the first one-week training session, on organic agriculture in rural communities of the Dominican Republic, with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). These training sessions are designed to allow the application of this learning in their farming operations and increase their productivity and income.

During the training period, several agricultural techniques were taught to farmers as vermicomposting (using earthworms) as a source of organic fertilizer in the community of Carbonera, Montecristi, also the farmers was able to observe the intensive agricultural practices on a small scale in rural areas and visit the plantation model of organic coffee in the province of Valverde. They also visited and shared the experience of the production of certified organic cocoa, of an association located in the community of El Jobo (Province of Hermanas Mirabal).

At the end of this session, participants Farmers presented 10 innovative projects based on organic farming, 5 of theme will be funded by FAO for intensive courses. Haitian farmers believe that this FAO initiative is a positive experience that will allow them to makes "many miracles" in their respective communities.
