Haiti - Elections : Brazil commits for democracy in Haiti !

Yesterday, José Luiz Machado e Costa, Brazil's ambassador to Haiti, and Sophie de Caen, the Senior Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an agreement amounting one million dollars dedicated to the financing of electoral process in Haiti. "One way for the Brazilian people to confirm its solidarity with a democratic and transparent Haiti," says a note from UNDP.

Partner of the Government of Haiti, Brazil since 2005 has demonstrated its interest in the electoral issue in Haiti. "Democracy is a political model that Brazil defends. The Haitian people deserves that we support it in its approach. It is a way for us to encourage it in the democratic process," stressed the Brazilian ambassador to the end of the meeting.

Thus, Haiti continues to move towards the construction of a stable electoral system paving the road to democracy and the effective and sustainable development. The Permanent Electoral Council, established in 2011, is the best example. Since its inception, the government partners like the United Nations Development have continuously support it.

"This demonstration of solidarity on the part of Brazil will allow us to continue our work to strengthen the technical capacity of electoral bodies. This is a strong gesture that will materialize in the next elections," welcomed the Senior Director of UNDP Sophie De Caen.
