The annual Cancer Screening Campaign (breast, cervical and prostate) of the Haitian Institute of Oncology (IHDO) and the Haitian Society of Oncology (SHONC) began Monday, May 20.

Screening for breast cancer and cervical cancer 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 26 May 2013: consultation and medicines (free), Pap test (fee 100 gourdes) and mammography at discounted prices.

Screening for prostate cancer: Friday 28 and Sunday, June 30, 2013.

The IHDO and SHONC take this opportunity to raise awareness about the devastation caused by cancers of the breast, cervix among Haitian women and the prostate among men and remember that cancer can be treated if detected early in its early stages, usually, it is painless.

Thus every woman, having a sex life, must make its Pap test every year to prevent or detect early cancer of the cervix. Any woman of 20 or more must make his self-examination of breasts each month, a week after menses. Any woman 40 years or older must make his self-examination every month, a medical consultation for breast and a mammogram every year to detect early breast cancer.

Every man over the age of 40 must be his PSA (blood test) every year for the early detection of prostate cancer.
