On Monday, the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe had an important meeting with Celso Amorim, the Brazilian Minister of Defence, in the framework of his official visit of one week in Brazil to strengthen cooperation ties between the two states.

The discussions between the Chief of the Haitian Government and the Brazilian Minister of Defence revolved among others, around he maintenance of the Brazilian troops in the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and the strong political support of Brazil to the project of construction of a hydroelectric dam in cooperation with Canada in the Artibonite department, called "Artibonite 4C."

It was also for the Prime Minister to seek the support of the Brazilian presidency in favor of a speedy ratification of agreements of cooperation for the creation of a corps of military engineers.

On the sidelines of his meeting with the Chief Minister Amorim Haitian government has also sought the cooperation of Brazil for the creation of a rapid intervention unit within the National Police of Haiti composed of 600 men and women. During this strategic meeting, the Prime Minister has clearly expressed to his interlocutor that Brazil can help Haiti develop.

Migration issues were also on the agenda of this meeting. In this regard, Laurent Lamothe took the opportunity to thank the Brazilian Government for its total support for the legalization of 15,000 Haitian migrants.
