Haiti - Security : 42 students in Custom trained in techniques of control and intervention
In February 2012, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, asked the French Minister of Foreign Affairs his support to implement a system of recruitment and training of customs officers, because of the particular expertise of France in customs matters. Indeed, in most countries, the armed actions for customs, are carried out by the police, in France, on the contrary, these are customs officers who are responsible of that. It was for the Prime Minister to recruit and train the "armed wing" of the customs.

The France has thus released 900,000 euros to implement the "Project boundary", including the Haitian request. This project, in addition to the collaboration with the General Administration of Customs, aims to promote coordination between the three Haitian authorities (customs, National Police of Haiti and immigration), that work on border surveillance, and to develop to term, the cooperation with the Republic Dominican.

In this context, a 6-month training for 125 students in Custom (to become customs officers) was launched on April 8. This training is divided into two main modules.

A first module of theoretical training is provided by Haitian customs officers, some of which have received training in the schools of French Customs.

The second practical module is provided to Haiti by French customs experts for three sessions of two weeks of training, other interventions are provided for professional technical gestures, and shooting sessions.

In this context, on the site of the Police Academy, a two-week training module began on May 14 for 42 of 142 students in Custom, concerning the professional techniques of control and intervention. Two similar sessions will be held in June and July, so that all students are trained in French techniques.
