Haiti - Energy : EDH almost double its distribution capacity in Canapé Vert
On Wednesday, the President Michel Martelly, has officially put in operation the substation of Canapé Vert, after the rehabilitation work carried out by Electricity of Haiti (EDH), with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). With this substation that supplies the mixed areas (Furcy to Pélerin, Downtown of Pétion-Ville, Road of Frères, Bourdon/Musseau, and Juvénat/Canapé Vert), the distribution capacity of the EDH now moving from 33.6 to 60 MW, following the installation of three 25 MVA transformers.

Satisfied with the leadership team of the new team of the EDH which has helped to improve the electrical system, the President Martelly has extended his congratulations to Ms. Andress Apollo, the Director General of the institution, to his entire team, as well as the Embassy of the United States in Haiti and USAID for their considerable support.

"I am pleased to see that many efforts have been made, although the road is still long, towards the realization of my dream for my country and for this company which for years was the delight of a whole nation. The country needs to get on the path of development, and for that we should all get involved," declared the Head of State which has made ​​energy one of its priorities.

For his part, the U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White has reiterated the commitment of the Government of the United States to support the Haitian people. She took the opportunity to congratulate the President Martelly as well as the current government for their efforts to raise the standard of living of Haitians.



In addition, "Honor and Merit" plaques were awarded to Engineers Michel Patrick Mathurin, Deputy Technical Director of the Network of the EDH Robert Naylor of the firm "Perini, Ernest Paultre et Mario Charest" for their dedication to the success of the first phase of rehabilitation of substations of the metropolitan area. This first phase, which cost 15 million U.S. dollars concerned Rivière Froide, Carrefour Feuilles, Toussaint Brave, Croix-des-Bouquets and Canapé Vert.

From June, the EDH will head on the second phase, aimed at rehabilitating of Varreux and Ancien Delmas. The start of the third phase (Croix-des-Missions, Martissant and Dispatching) is scheduled for January 2014.

The Head of State encouraged the EDH to redouble its efforts to improve the quality, stability and the amount of electricity and called users to adopt new behaviors for better management of the electrical energy in the country.
