After having led the Haitian delegation to the 21st Summit of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 26 and 27 May 2013, Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Moscow, capital of Russia, where he will participate on Wednesday May 29 at a working meeting with Sergueï Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Ministers of the Troika expanded of the CELAC (Community of States of Latin America and the Caribbean).

The presence of the Chancellor Casimir at the meeting between Russian officials and CELAC, falls within the framework of the strong return of Haiti on the regional and world stage, as part of the continuing implementation of the foreign policy of the Government Martelly-Lamothe, characterized by the search for a diversification of partners in terms of international cooperation.

Discussions will focus, among others, on the strengthening of economic and trade relations between Russia and the States of the region, the fight against drugs and illicit arms trafficking and the possible contribution of Russia to the implementation of the resolution on the special cooperation with Haiti, adopted by the Heads of State and Government of the CELAC at the Summit of Santiago, Chile, 28 January 2013, in order to support the efforts of the Haitian government in the reconstruction and development of the country.

In addition, the Minister Casimir could have a bilateral meeting with his Russian Counterpart Sergueï Lavrov [unconfirmed].
