Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly signed the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement 29/05/2013 09:46:55 The Head of State, on behalf of CARICOM, signed with Mr. Biden the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). The two sides agreed to enhance, facilitate and expand foreign direct investment. This agreement, which encourages and facilitates relationships between businesses and private sector groups in the United States and CARICOM Member States, recognize the importance of the increasing of trade and investment for small economies, taking into account the respective levels of development and growth, as well as the geographic dispersion of the States of the Caribbean Region. The meeting was concluded with the holding of a joint press conference between the Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar, the President Martelly and U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden. During the press conference, Mrs. Bissessar thanked the participants and congratulated the Chairman of CARICOM (Michel Martelly) for his leadership. For his part, Mr. Biden, indicated that the Obama administration was ready to work with Caribbean countries as partners in the fight against transnational crime, promotion of investment, new technologies of information and immigration. The President Martelly, wanted closer ties between the United States and the countries of the Caribbean region. In addition, the President Martelly also had a brief session of bilateral work with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar, on issues related to the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, including the conduct of trade missions between Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago and of investments in the field of energy.
