Haiti - Economy : Launch of the CARICOM Aid for Trade Strategy 12/06/2013 10:31:49
Following the proposal of the Haitian delegation at the meeting in Montego Bay (July 2010), of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), of a structure of capacity building of the offer and trade-related infrastructure, of the regions of Caribbean ; the President Michel Martelly, in the presence of Wilson Laleau, Acting Minister of Trade and Industry, Pierre Richard Casimir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Irwin Larocque, Secretary General of CARICOM and a hundred representatives of regional and international organizations, of Business of development and trade in the region ; officially launched Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Royal Oasis, the CARICOM Aid for Trade Strategy, a subset of the official assistance of developed countries and multilateral funding agencies to developing countries, in order to strengthen their participation in the multilateral trading system. "My presence reflects my adherence to the economic development strategy of the region. This is through mutually beneficial trade exchanges, that we will be able to create massive jobs as desired, densify and diversify the regional productive fabric," stressed the President Martelly who believes that only an exportable offer diversified of CARICOM countries can reduce the vulnerability of the region to external shocks, including the volatility of commodity prices and the fluctuating demand for key export products.
