Haiti - Economy : 60MM Gourdes for the program «Kredi pou fanm lakay»

Recently, the Ministry of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF) organized a workshop on the program "Kredi pou fanm lakay" of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), designed to make independent women living in rural areas.

FAES has announced that 60 million gourdes are available for a period of three years, and nearly 10,000 women will benefit an average of 15,000 gourdes credit under this program that will be managed directly by the FAES and not by MCFDF.

By September, the program "Kredi pou fanm lakay", will be present in 30 communes of 7 departments and by the end of the year, on the whole territory. Existing micro-credit institutions will be used in the implementation of this program. In localities where such institutions do not exist, the FAES will support the creation of savings and credit cooperatives.

"This credit will be granted to women living in rural areas as part of an organized structure and working in the production, processing and marketing of agricultural products," said Julio Julien, Project Manager at MCFDF.

These women "will have to be in groups of 4 to 6 to form a deposit Solidarity Group, serving as guarantor for each lender" said Jean Pierre Hertelou, Assistant Program Coordinator of fight against poverty at FAES.
