Haiti - Security : 17th anniversary of the SWAT Team
Monday, on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the specialized unit of the National Police of Haiti, SWAT Team, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe also President of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), paid a visit to the police officers assigned to this elite unit. The objective of the visit was not only to ascertain the needs of the tactical squad, but also contribute to the strengthening of security.

Laurent Lamothe took the opportunity to transmit the compliments of President Martelly, to the SWAT agents, underlining the enormous efforts made to combat crime in the country and reiterated the commitment of his Government to continue to maintain a peaceful environment in Haiti.

For his part, Godson Aurélus, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), hailed the unwavering support of the Government to the police institution, which is a fundamental element in the process of stabilization of the country stating that "Never the safety climate has been so stable over the past two decades."

The Prime Minister, who invited the Police to work tirelessly to protect the population, gave the assurance that the Government will make every effort to continue to support the PNH in its fight against insecurity.

In a press briefing, the Prime Minister stated "[...] We came to give to the police in general, all the support and today is the day of SWAT, so I wanted to be with them first to see what support we can give them, secondly what they need in terms of equipment and give them all my personal solidarity, that of the President and of the Government [...]

We know that this is an elite unit, this is a very important tactical unit in the police, so it is important that leaders take their time to talk and see how we can provide the maximum of support, for their work can be done correctly.

On this point all safety indicators are improving, kidnappings are down, violent crime are down [...] we begin to put a lot of control on the streets [...] we do not want the bandits find locations where operate because we have the political will to transform the country, and this political will transform not only the country but also the issue of security in the country which is a very important point for the Haitian people [...]"
