Haiti - Culture : 12th International Festival of Rome, photo contest

The Ministry of Culture is pleased to invite the Haitian photographers (professionals and amateurs) to participate in the photo contest organized within the framework of the 12th edition of the Rome International Film Festival.

As part of the 12th edition of FOTOGRAFIA – Festival Internazionale di Roma (October 4 – December 1, 2013), the IILA – Italo-Latin American Institute and Officine International launch the sixth edition of the IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize. This initiative is intended to provide young Latin American photographers (40 or younger) an opportunity to participate in the festival alongside established figures in the discipline.

Photographers applying for this year’s selection must send via fotografia@iila.org a project on the subject “ABSENCE AND PHOTOGRAPHY.” The subject of absence, a constant in contemporary art, is a key to the Twentieth Century. In the realm of photography, absence, as a lack of exteriority, takes from the image the function of reproducing reality and is externalized as an introspection that transforms images into that which is not visible. It is a triumph of the photographer over the photographed object.

A selection of the best works among the submissions will be exhibited at MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma, the prestigious exhibition space that gives the IILA Prize its high profile in the context of European cultural events.

One absolute winner will be named from among the works selected for the general section of the IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize, 6th Edition, who will receive a one-month stay in Rome for the realization of a photographic work focused on the Eternal City, to be presented at MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma during the 2014 edition of the Festival.

With the purpose of encouraging a greater number of participants, the 2013 edition of the IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize has programmed the debut of a section titled “One photograph,” for citizens of Latin American member countries of IILA, without age restrictions, devoted to projects comprising a single photograph inspired by the subject “ABSENCE AND PHOTOGRAPHY.” The photograph must be submitted via unafoto@iila.org. A selection of the best submissions will be exhibited at MACRO as part of the IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize general section.

The deadline for submissions is July 18th, 2013.
