On Wednesday, the municipality of Fonds Verettes, the organization "Progettomondo MLAL" and the Centre of Research and Economic and Social training for the Development "CRESFED", proceeded at the closing of the project of Capacity Building of youth for the promotion of development in the border areas, implemented in the municipality of Fonds Verettes, in the framework of an initiative co-funded by the European Union, for a total amount of 910.746 euros.

This project that started in May 2010 aimed globally at improving the quality of life in the border area of Fonds-Verettes often hit by major climatic hazards, through a process of dialogue with municipalities for the definition of risk reduction initiatives and the promotion of employment.

Specifically, it helped strengthen the professional and cultural capacities of young of urban and rural areas in six localities of the municipality of Fonds-Verrettes, through a participatory process of local development, and the use of a cross-sectoral approach allowing to also touch the issues related to gender equity, respect for the environment and strengthening civil society.

In terms of learning, this project will have enabled among others, to finalize the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the Commune ; to support the inclusion of Fonds-Verrettes in intercommunal dialogue with neighboring municipalities and bordering of basin of Lakes Amala and Enriquillo : to strengthen the professional capacity of more than 300 young people ; to establish a community center and rehabilitate several public infrastructure such as national schools and public reservoirs, through the use of trained young beneficiaries and the local population.

This initiative is part of the support of the European Union to strengthen the capacity of non-state actors and local authorities so that they can achieve to fully play their role as actors in the development and local governance.
