Haiti - Politic : Networking of Local Authority and Non-State Actors
On Friday, the Municipality of Croix des Bouquets, Oxfam Italia and the Delegation of the European Union in Haiti have launched the project of Intercommunality and networking of local Authority (LA) and Non-State Actors (NSA) for a shared management of a common territory, initiative amouting to 1.228 million euros, financed by the European Union to the tune of 75%.
Overall, the project aims to establish and strengthen mechanisms of dialogue and democratic participation among the municipalities of Lake Azuei and Haitian civil society in order to allow at in order to allow term lead to a Joint Plan of development of this area to reach a Joint development plan of this space.
Part of the approach developed by the European Union around the issues of border regions of the lake, this initiative is centered on an analysis of critical situation of watersheds, their impact on the socio-economic living conditions of the population and of the necessary framework to provide to the NSA and LA of the region, so that they have the means to intervene and identify their own solutions to the problems faced by their communities as part of the local governance.
Implemented in the Department of the West, this project will specifically affect five municipalities in the area of Lake Azuei: Croix des Bouquets, Ganthier, Cornillon, and Thomazeau Fonds Verrettes. These areas constitute as a whole a fragile ecological zone because of their status of watershed undermined by overexploitation of resources and regular flooding due to their proximity to the lake whose waters continue to rise.
The municipalities of Croix de Bouquets, Ganthier, Cornillon, Thomazeau and of Fonds-Verrettes, NGOs in the area and the Local Technical Agency of Croix-des-Bouquets are among institutional partners of the area.
