Haiti - Agriculture : Important Haitian Mission in Washington
An important delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) led by agronomist Louis Buteau, in charge of mission to the Directorate General of the Ministry, will be in the United States from 13 to 23 August 2013.

This delegation that will stay in Washington and Lincoln (Nebraska) where is located the largest soil laboratory in the world, will be composed of 16 members: 10 executives of the Directorate of Forest and Soil Resources (DRFS) of MARNDR, 3 executives of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) of the State University of Haiti (UEH) shose the dean of the faculty ; 1 executive of project Winner and 2 executives of the National Centre of Geo-Spatial Information (CNIGS).

This mission fall within the framework of the future launch of the pilot project of soil survey in the Plaine du cul de Sac. This project will be funded by the International Development Agency of the United States (USAID) and implemented by the MARNDR through the Directorate of Forest and Soil Resources (DRFS) who will benefit from the supervision of specialists from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the Department of Agriculture of the United States. This project will lead to the establishment of a major program of soil survey at the national level, of paramount importance for the MARNDR, because with the information obtained it will be possible to increase our agricultural productivity ; sustainably use our land and improve our socio-economic and environmental conditions in the short and long term and ormulate with much more ease a policy on land use.

During this visit also funded by USAID, the delegation of MARNDR will be able to know the latest survey techniques of soils and the practical application of these techniques through field visits, how these techniques help in the planning of urban activities, of agriculture and industry.
