Haiti - Tourism : Tourism Development Plan of the South Coast of Haiti
On Friday, the Ministry of Tourism presented the final phase of work relating to the study of strategies within the framework of Program of Development of Regions Integrated of Development of Tourism (RIAT).

After the Phase of diagnostics of RIAT program, developed by the SODADE Group, a Mexican consultation led by Felipe Ortiz (specialist in development of tourist destinations) undertook the completion of this program which provides a tourism development plan for the South Coast of the country.

Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism was pleased to have initiated for eleven months this study on the south and south-east coast of Haiti, announced the creation of a structure "PLANITOUR" which will be responsible for planning the other priority areas of tourism development in Haiti "We can not talk about tourism without management plans. We can not attract investors without a document where services are planned, road and airport infrastructure in place, without subdivisions for hotels and other... We can not talk about tourism, if we do not work on the tourism product of the zone. I am very pleased of this collaboration with Mexican experts that allow us today to have this integrated tourism development plan."

For his part, Andy Durosier, Director of the Unit for Studies and Programming (UEP) of the Ministry of Tourism has reported various factors taken into account in the Plan "This study carried out in South and Southeast considers terrain, biodiversity, the economyas well as the socio-demographics aspects of each of these regions," noting that "The development of tourism at present is only conceived in function of these pillars."

Note that this first tourist development project in the region of Côtes-de Fer, aims, among others, the construction towards 2015 of an airport with a runway of 2,400 meters, a shopping center, a golf course with 18 holes and 1,000 hotel rooms. The total project cost is estimated at $ 230 million.
