Haiti - Tourism : Lake Festival at Natural Park Quisqueya, D-5
The Organizing Committee of the Lake festival has officially launched of activities to mark the ten days and ten nights of this important event, o be held in the Natural Park Quisqueya, of Fond-Parisien from August 23 to September 1, 2013, an initiative of the Foundation for the Development of Alternative Tourism in Haiti (FONDTAH), together with the AfricAmerica foundation.

The organizers by this event, aim at improving eco-tourism offers in the Natural Park Quisqueya of Fond-Parisien, in order to market local products and promote ecotourism particularly community-based tourism, a lever for local development.

The Festivities of the Lake Festival include three main components :
  • The component A which consists of Art Exhibition, Craft, Agricultural and Industrial, Guided Tours, Sports, Swimming, Food.
  • The component B will be marked by Scientific conferences, Encounters between local actors of the Regionof lake (Croix-des-Bouquets, Ganthier, Thomazeau, Cornillon and Fonds Verrettes)
  • The component C which will consist of Cultural performances, Artistic, Music and Popular Celebration.

    Mr. Raphaël Brigandi, the Charge of Political Affairs of the European Union, said that the lake festival is funded by the EU under the ARCHES program up 5 million gourdes, or 80% of the amount requested, the remaining 20% ​​will be provided by the local counterpart.

    Mrs. Christine Stepheson, the President of the Foundation Africamerica stressed that theLake Festival is a project well deserving in many ways. "This is an exceptional natural site, a magnificent landscape that all Haitians should know. This is a unique site in the Caribbean that has all the characteristics of the African landscape." She also praised the potential and natural resources/wealth of the Natural Park Quisqueya of Fond-Parisien, stating that this activity is designed "to attract maximum visitors at the park by setting up a campaign of promotion and marketing to a wide and diverse audience, develop various ecological products, cultural, artistic and historical to satisfy the public."

    An appointment not to be missed to close the summer holiday period.

    The Natural Park Quisqueya is a recreational ecotourism site which is part of the key areas of biodiversity and contains a specific flora and fauna. It is located in the town of Fond-Parisien 35 km from Port-au-Prince and just 12 km from Jimani nearest border town in the Dominican Republic. Covering an area of ​​134 hectares, overlooking Lake Azuei, the Park has an exceptional vegetation, surrounding reliefs formed on the north by the chain of Trou d'Eau and the Sierra de Neyba and to the south by the mountains of the Selle and Sierra de Bahoruco.
