Haiti - Social : Signing of an agreement for the construction of 1,000 houses

Tuesday the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), has signed an implementation agreement with the Organization Food For The Poor for the construction of 1,000 units of social housing in the Northern Department.

In addition to ensuring the execution of construction work, Food For The Poor also making a major contribution of $3,5 million to the overall budget of $13.7 million, whose ore than 10 million come om the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

After the first phase of the Program of Support to the Intervention Plan in the Housing Sector (SPISH) to Zoranje, the SPISH continues its projects in the Northern Department more precisely in : Ouanaminthe, Terrier Rouge and Caracol, in order to provide decent housing to people in vulnerable situations in needy regions.

This contract, that began in August 2013, will extend over 18 months and will allow the construction of 1,000 houses of 42m2 on land of 108 m2. Each house has two bedrooms, a den, a kitchen and a toilet interior with modern comfort. This project will enable nearly 6,000 people to live in better conditions.

Klaus Eberwein, the Director General of the FAES, thanked the IDB and Food For The Poor on behalf of the Government of Haiti, for confidence put in his institution and promised to bring this project to fruition for the benefit of the population and to fight against extreme poverty.
