Haiti - Education : Postponement of the school year, explanations of the Minister of Education

Thursday Vanneur Pierre Minister of Education explained the reasons for the postponement of the new school year to October 1 instead of 2 September 2013, a decision taken Wednesday in Government Council at its request, a measure according to him that was inevitable "First, there had the delay accumulated during the baccalaureate exams second part, due to the passage of Tropical Storm Chantal over Haiti on July 10 and the resumption of exams on July 15, which had an impact on the entire planning process [...] Then, the results of examinations of Bac I and II, which are not yet published in all departments due to the choice of correctors and requirements attached to their tasks [...] All the papers underwent three corrections this year [...] We have taken all measures to ensure that students are no victims of bad corrections. Last year, there were 12,000 adjourned this year we had more than 80,000" announcing at the same time the conduct of examinations for the special session for adjourned students, starting from Monday, September 2.

"[...] Add to this, parents and teachers unions that have organized conferences in recent days to request the postponement of the new school year in October. Of important claims in our decision making."

Finally, the preparation and delivery of school materials and fees to be paid to schools beneficiaries of Universal Education Program, Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) are also part of the reasons for the postponement.
