Haiti - Environment : Launch of the project «South sea» (Mer Sud)
On Thursday, the Ministry of Environment has launched the project "South Sea" (Mer Sud), which is a reinforcement of the order of 7 August 2013, declaring eight marine and coastal areas protection in the Southern Department.

This project was launched under the name "Protected Area of Natural Resources Managed of Port-Salut/Aquin", is carried out with funding from Norwegian Government, in partnership with the United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP), the European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MARNDR).



"The marine and coastal complex located in the town of Saint-Louis du Sud, is composed of natural systems that we must ensure the long-term protection and that we must maintain the biological diversity," recalled Jean Francois Thomas, Minister of the Environment. Soon after he informed that this project also aimed to assist fishers in the town of Saint-Louis du Sud.
