Haiti - Social : Changing in flow direction in Port-au-Prince

Following studies conducted by the Ministry of Public Works, in order to make the traffic more fluid in the Downtown Port-au-Prince, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince in collaboration with the Central Directorate of Traffic Police (DCPR) of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the Ministry has decided to change the direction of flow in some streets of the capital.

As of 19 September 2013, for one-way streets : Césars, Fronts-Forts, des Miracles, Pavée, Casernes, Romain and the street Chavannes, traffic will now reverse.

According to the Commissioner Will Dimanche, these changes will facilitate the flow of traffic during the school year. For his part Joseph Delince Delva, Head of signaling informed that by next week, several signs at each street concerned, will be installed.

The Ministry asks drivers to be attentive to these changes and says that as of September 19, drivers will have a week to get used to and comply with these changes of directions. After this week of grace, DCPR will take all necessary measures to enforce the new rules and traffic police will distribute tickets to drivers in fault.

Moreover, Joiséus Nader, the Assistant Director of the Ministry of Public Works stated that additional traffic signs and of directions, will be installed progressively in all the streets of the capital to improve circulation.
