Haiti - Social : A peacekeeper accused of abuse...

Following accusations of a young girl of 18 years of Léogâne who says she was abused last weekend by a peacekeeper of the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH), belonging to a Sri Lankan battalion stationed in Léogâne, Yanick Mézile the Minister for Women's Affairs and women's Rights (MCFDF) officially seized of the matter and informed that the Legal Affairs Directorate of MCFDF had ordered an investigation into the allegations and reiterated her commitment to support all victims of rape.

For her part, Mrs. Sophie Boutaud de la Combe, MINUSTAH spokesman, confirmed that the UN organization is aware of the allegations of sexual abuse allegedly committed by a member of its military personnel and in accordance with the policy of zero tolerance of the UN, a preliminary investigation was immediately opened to determine the facts, for appropriate action "The investigation is ongoing and we can not comment on investigations. What I can tell you is that MINUSTAH takes allegations like this very seriously and all measures are taken to ensure that the investigation will be concluded as soon as possible."
