Haiti - Security : 14 police officers from the City of Montreal participating in a mission to Haiti
Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and 14 members of the Police Department of the City of Montreal (SPVM) began a one-year mission in Haiti. This mission includes 31 Canadian police officers, will have as main task, to check Haitian police patrols and train their colleagues to Canadian police methods.

Lieutenant Mario Lagacé of the SQ which is in its third mission in Haiti, declared "We give them tools, we transmit them our information, but they must adapt them to their customs and their culture," noting that there are differences in the Code of road safety, the Criminal Code and the procedures of arrest.

Remember that Canadian police officers provide help in Haiti since 1993. Since 2004, between 85 and 90 Canadian police officers travel to Haiti every year, as part of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
