Thursday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, fittingly commemorated the 207th anniversary of the death of Jean-Jacques Dessalines by starting the day with the laying of a wreath of flowers at the foot of the monument erected in memory of the Emperor Dessalines, at Pont rouge (north entrance of the capital) where was assassinated Founder of the Nation, October 17, 1806.

The e ceremony was held in the presence, among others, of members of the Cabinet of Ministers and executives of the public administration, of Me Anel Alexis Joseph, of President of the Supreme Court, Dieuseul Desras Simon, of President of the Senate, Jean Tolbert Alexis, President of the Chamber of Deputies, of Directors general and members of the commander of the PNH.

The Head of State took advantage of this moment to meditate and remember the role played by the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines in the struggle for Independence.

Immediately after, Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe, at the head of a ministerial delegation and accompanied by among others the President of the Chamber of Deputies, went in the direction of Marchand Dessalines, the former capital of Haiti, under the Empire of the Founder of the Nation. In his message during the te-Deum circumstantial, the Prime Minister recalled the vision of the Head of State to build a nation worthy of the ideal dessalinien and conscious of its mission to restore confidence among Haitians. He also put emphasis on the need for Haitians to unite and work for peace and sustainable development.

While this religious ceremony was held, followed by a number of official interventions and a floral offering in the place of Marchand Dessalines, President Martelly was in Grande Rivière du Nord, where he received a very warm welcome. During his address to the population, on the place d'armes of the town, the Head of State noted the importance of this historic visit, including in Cormiers, birthplace of the Emperor.

Faithful to his convictions, the President Martelly stressed the importance of education in the development process of the country, and allowed on this occasion, to four young people to benefit from academic scholarships (3 in medicine and 1 in agronomy).

The presidential delegation, accompanied by a large crowd, then went on habitation Cormiers, 6th communal section of Grande Rivière du Nord, where Jean Jacques Dessalines was born, an opportunity for the Head of State to lay a wreath of flowers at the monument erected in memory of the Emperor.
