Haiti - Social : Opening of two new community restaurants

As part of the commemoration of the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, Charles Jean Jacques, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour proceeded to the inauguration of the restaurant community of Milot (located in Grand Rue) and to the launch of a community restaurant in Petite Anse (situated on the street Immaculée Conception).

In Milot and Petite Anse, people welcomed with joy the establishment of these two community restaurants likely to relieve some desperate families living in difficult economic conditions, pending the implementation of the national program to boost domestic production.

500 hot meals prepared in very hygienic conditions by professional chefs, will be available Monday through Friday to the most vulnerable peoples who will give a symbolic contribution of 10 Gourdes to sustain the program.

With these two openings, 11 community well equipped restaurants now serve the people of the main regions in the Northern Department : Plaisance, Limbé, Limonade, Grande Rivière du Nord, Morne Rouge, Fort-Bourgeois, Fourgeolle, Nan Banann, Milot, Petite-Anse and Carrefour des Pères, to meet to some extent the pressing demands of the most vulnerable.

Philomène Monique St Martin, 54, and Berthony Cherenfant, 25, both from Milot did not hide their satisfaction "This is one of the finest acts of the President Martelly that must be taken in all its social dimension."

Claudette François, 44, and Frantzy Joseph, 24, both domiciled in Petite Anse have foir their part expressed the hope that the Government Martelly-Lamothe continues to support the most vulnerable populations of the Northern Department through other social assistance programs "With this community restaurant, young of Petite Anse are now insured after school day they will find something to eat to be able to prepare their homework and study their lessons."

The Minister announced that 7 new community restaurants will soon be located in Cap-Haitien, including in St Michel, Quartier Morin, Acul du Nord, Dondon, Ranquitte, Dèyè Katye, Cite Lescot and La Fossette.
