Haiti - Security : First anniversary of the bicycle brigade of the PNH 19/07/2014 10:03:05
The PNH currently has 9 bicycle brigades in operation, including in the municipalities of Croix-des-Bouquets, Pétion- Ville, Cité Soleil, Delmas, Les Cayes, Jacmel, Gonaives, Saint-Marc and Cap-Haitien. A new Tourism Police (Politour) brigade will shortly be deployed to Cap- Haitien. To date, 66 PNH officers are part of the bicycle brigade in Haiti. In addition, 14 PNH officiers were trained by United Nations police officers (UNPOL) as instructors so that they in turn can train their colleagues within the HNP bicycle brigades.  The participation of Canadian police to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) is a key element of Canada's engagement in Haiti. Nearly 90 Canadian police officers are responsible for ensuring compliance with the mandate of the United Nations and train the PNH, while assessing and identifying current standards and training needs. Although the number fluctuates depending on deployments, about five Canadian UNPOL work specifically with the PNH bicycle brigades.
