Recall that Haiti has insurance coverage, with the "Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility" (CCRIF) for the period 1 June 2014 to 31 May 2015, comprising this year a component for the risk of excess precipitation. Haiti benefit from this protection, thanks to a subsidy of the annual insurance premium of 2.57 million to Haiti (for the 2nd year) by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Let's hope that this insurance applies in the circumstances.

Learn more about the CCRIF :
CCRIF, the world’s first regional insurance fund, is a parametric insurance facility, owned, operated and registered in the Caribbean for governments in the region. It is designed to limit the financial impact of catastrophic hurricanes and earthquakes to Caribbean governments by quickly providing short-term liquidity when a policy is triggered. CCRIF was developed through funding from the Japanese government, and was capitalized through contributions to a multi-donor trust fund by the government of Canada, the European Union, the World Bank, the governments of the United Kingdom and France, CDB and the governments of Ireland and Bermuda, as well as through membership fees paid by participating governments. Last August, the CCRIF has created an excess rainfall insurance package for 2014-2015.
