Haiti - Politic : «No sacrifice is too great for Haiti» dixit Evans Paul
Monday at the inauguration of Cabinet https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12975-haiti-flash-composition-of-the-new-ministerial-cabinet-update-5-53-pm.html , Evans Paul, the new Prime Minister gave a speech in which he said he was aware that he was not elected, and he came out of a process of political consensus, he also said he was aware that his mandate is very limited in this particular conjuncture, and has committed to continue the major infrastructure projects already started. No sacrifice is too big for Haiti. I sincerely believe it. We are ready for any form of sacrifice to save the country, to strengthen democracy," he said.

Speech by Prime Minister Evans Paul :
"[...]

During my installation, last Friday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12963-haiti-flash-official-evans-paul-installed-at-the-primature.html , I followed the path set by the President of the Republic, leaving my heart speak. I take this opportunity again to thank the President of the Republic, His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly, for choosing me to be his prime minister. And I promise him, in mutual respect, a full and frank collaboration with which the Haitian democracy will out strengthened.

Mr. President, it is in this spirit of gratitude and loyalty that we will continue to work and put ourselves at the service of the country, at the service of the people of Haiti, at the state service and especially the service of the weakest since democracy must be fair and equitable.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Cabinet,

I am fully aware of my responsibilities to advance the country, to organize the State, to respect and uphold the law, so I rely on your full cooperation. We are one team of men and women determined to seek stability, social peace to calm the atmosphere for the holding of credible and inclusive elections, essential for economic and social progress of the country, our country Haiti.

The President of the Republic and I rely on your expertise and your ideal of change to drive to port the national boat.

In the coming hours, you will have in hand, each in regard, a framework letter that will define the actions and activities that your respective ministry must continue, strengthen or begin in the shortest possible time.

I expect that we will work in a climate of perfect cordiality and conviviality and mutual respect.

Many of us come from different political universe. Many of us have different political and ideological options. However, we will give the example of understanding and sincere and frank collaboration to achieve a common goal: to serve our country Haiti.

We will show that men and women from different backgrounds can agree on one thing in common: the progress of Haiti.

We will give the whole world a living example of living together.

We must start work immediately to address the major challenges of the day.

We need a coherent government to steer the country in the right direction.

Ladies and Gentlemen Ministers,

As Prime Minister, I would ensure that resources and state bodies are not used for partisan purposes and/or political persecution.

As Prime Minister, I propose to hover above the crowd. I would take pleasure in listening all dissenting voices, all taken positions that disagree with mine, I would understand them and would respect them.

Be assured, ladies and gentlemen, that if there are political positions that can possibly affect the man Evans Paul, they will never affect in any way the Prime Minister Evans Paul, a Prime Minister at the service of all.

The danger that threatened the Haitian democracy in this difficult conjuncture, required that I first think of the interests of the country and I gladly accepted this difficult and heavy responsibility.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

If there is a reality of which I am aware is that I am not elected. I came out of a political consensus process.

My legitimacy, I draw it of my long years of struggle for the triumph of democratic ideals.

My legitimacy, I draw it of my rallying profile whose country is in great need, especially in this period of political turmoil and ideological polarization.

That said, I must declare to the President Martelly and to the Republic as a whole that I have no intention of promoting a policy different from what has been committed and promised by President Martelly.

Aware that my mandate is very limited in this particular conjoncture, nevertheless I committo continue the major infrastructure projects already started.

As such, let me acknowledge the work and efforts of my predecessors, namely Mr. Gary Conille and Laurent Lamothe, without omitting the distinguished Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, who briefly served as interim after the resignation of Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe.

I will ask the Haitian people to accompany me on this path of consensus, and I will pray God for having his mercy and support in the implementation of the immense tasks that lie ahead.

I rely on full and complete cooperation of officials in public administration. I remain convinced that the success of a government passes through a strong government, organized and oriented towards the imperative to serve the people, thus playing its lead role of 'secular arm' of all public service worthy of the name. I promise to look into the working conditions of these public servants, in order to enhance their potential.

In my capacity as President of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), I promise to take a careful look at the often precarious situation of the very police officers who are responsible for protecting and serving the public.

As for the press, my relationship with it will be conducted with respect and support. I know what is expected of the state. The press will receive all the safe environment necessary for sound management of the freedom of expression. Also, the state will guarantee its access to information to enable the development of investigative journalism in the country.

I invite the private business sector to be more involved to the efforts being undertaken to improve the living conditions of the population. Indeed, gross domestic product grew in volume by 2.8% this year against a target of 3.6%. From then, we rely heavily on private investment to support growth. The consensus government will ensure the establishment of an environment conducive to business development.

I urge the union sector to join the employers in equal partnership where the rights of each other will be respected.

Political parties and trade unions, rightly regarded as the soul of democracy, will enjoy a peaceful socio-political atmosphere in order to articulate their demands and their rights. The state, under the administration Martelly-Paul, will guarantee individual freedoms. The rights of citizens to hold peaceful demonstrations will be fully guaranteed, as will also be guaranteed the rights of other citizens go about their business.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I assure you that President Martelly and I always have our doors open to continue the constructive dialogue already initiated with the various sectors of the country. At this stage, I can not resist to recall the words spoken by President Martelly at the National Palace on December 9, the day of the submission of the report of the Consultative Commission : 'No sacrifice is too great for Haiti.' I sincerely believe it. We are ready for any form of sacrifice to save the country, to strengthen the democracy.

The exception is chaos.

And I say forcefully : WALK UNITED AGAINST CHAOS.

Laglwa pou Bondye

Viktwa pou pèp la

Chapo ba pou prezidan Martelly

Limyè pou Ayiti

Lespwa pou demokrasi

Mèsi anpil"
