Haiti - Security : A young 24-year-old police officer savagely assassinated
On Sunday, Rigaud Claude Clermont, a 24-year-old police officer assigned to the police station of Pétion-ville, was savagely assassinated in his residence in the commune of Pétion-ville in circumstances not yet elucidated.

Inspector Garry Desrosiers, Deputy Spokesman for the Haitian National Police (HNP), who confirmed the information, said that with the collaboration of the population, 9 people were arrested for questioning during the investigation on this assassination : Neptune Bazile, Paul Mona, Mayoute Vilmar, Rosely Antoine, Thélusma Jean-Toussaint, Dieuvet Brevil, Bazile Alex,Thélusma Guylor and Steevenson Joachim adding that the PNH actively sought the dangerous gang leader Jean Hilaire Ladouceur, aka "Lèlè" suspected of being involved in the assassination.

The death of the young offier provoked strong reactions in the population who went down in the street, erecting barricades of burning tires on the Juvénat road between Pétion-Ville and Port-au-Prince. Armed with sticks and machetes, some angry residents went to the Pétion-ville police station to demand that to be handed to them he bandits who had been arrested to put an end to them.

Some have made accusations against the Mayor of Pétion-ville, Dominique St-Roc, who allegedly released Jean Hilaire Ladouceur aka "Lèlè" after a recent arrest at the Petion-ville police station. Allegations rejected by the Mayor of Pétion-Ville on a radio station of the capital, claiming that these unfounded accusations stem from political opponents seeking to hurt him, inviting the PNH to check in its registers to determine whether there was arrest and release

Reacting to his allegations, Inspector Gary Desrosiers said "I heard these rumors. It remains for me to inquire with the authorities of the police station of Pétion-Ville. This will allow me to know whether these are suspected criminals arrested and then released, or whether it is an arrest made during an identity check."

Should be noted that this is the 4th police officer to be killed in the last two weeks https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19484-haiti-flash-a-police-officer-executed-in-a-tap-tap.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19438-haiti-security-two-police-officers-shot-dead.html , bringing to 26 the number of police officers fallen on duty since the beginning of the year according to the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) for this year.

On Monday, the Minister of Justice, Camille Édouard Jr., during a meeting on the climate of insecurity with the High Command of the Police and human rights organizations in Petion-Ville said "Justice must be Applied against all criminals who have committed reprehensible acts on the population [...] It is inconceivable that gangsters continue to sowing mourning among the population [...] it is enough that policemen are killed by bandits. There is no question that these criminals operate like they want [...]"
