Haiti - Economic Forum : Resignation of the PM and the Government, a reasonable solution to the crisis
The Economic Forum of the Private Sector takes note of the resignation of the Prime Minister and that of his Government on July 14th https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24957-haiti-flash-resignation-of-the-prime-minister-lafontant.html and is convinced that this decision offers a way out towards a reasonable solution to the crisis resulting from recent price adjustment measures for petroleum products https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24881-haiti-flash-the-price-of-gas-explodes-at-the-pump.html and riots that followed https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24897-haiti-flash-3rd-day-of-riots-in-haiti.html

In a note, the Forum calls on the wisdom of our fellow citizens to restore without delay the order and the peace indispensable to the revival of the economy, for the benefit of the majority underlining "As a result of this crisis, several vital sectors of our economy, including the tourism industry, will likely experience significant declines in sales in the coming months. This situation could dangerously affect the pace of economic activity and further increase the high level of unemployment in our country.

Faced with this prospect, the Forum reiterates its call on the President of the Republic and Parliament to put in place an urgent and coherent economic recovery plan, including the establishment of a realistic national budget, focused on better tax collection, effective fight against smuggling and tax evasion.

The Forum once again urges its members and all the private sector players to contribute to the recovery effort, both by scrupulously respecting their tax obligations and by participating in a fruitful social dialogue with the authorities and organized bodies of civil society, with a view to building the conditions for a more just and prosperous society, enjoying greater harmony among all citizens."
