Haiti - Sports : Advances in the sports field in the country
Edwing Charles, the Minister of Youth and Sports accompanied by the President of the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH), Dr. Hans Larsen, shared last February 28 with the representatives of several National Sports Federations and Associations the latest decisions taken in view of improving the practice of sport across the country, namely the formation of the National Anti-Doping Agency Commission and the project of a National Sports Medicine Unit https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27014-haiti-sports-towards-the-creation-of-a-sports-medicine-unit-in-the-country.html "It is the duty of the State to play its role of regulator of the sector, but also to accompany, to take care of the athletes," said Minister Edwing Charles.

Recall that the creation of the National Anti-Doping Agency was confirmed last January, a few days before the expiry of a suspension of 6 months granted before the application of a sanction of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) which threatened to exclude from January 2019 Haitian athletes from all international competitions due to the absence of a National Anti-Doping Agency in Haiti... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25624-haiti-politic-3-months-to-avoid-the-exclusion-of-international-competitions-of-haitian-athletes.html . Minister Edwing Charles is waiting for WADA validation to install the 5 members of the Commission (3 Ministry members and 2 COH members) during the month of March.

Dr. Hans Larsen considers doping to be a violation of the rules that must be fought, believing that it is essential to prevent, permanently educate and strengthen the athletes' preparation while facilitating their rehabilitation.

Referring to the National Sports Medicine Unit project, Dr Larsen said "The Haitian Olympic Committee is providing 100% support to the Ministry," indicating that it intends to engage the Haitian Society of Sports Medicine (SHAMS) in this promising project, according to him, "deserves the support of the civil society and all the competences in the field for positive spin-offs on the performance of the athletes."

Minister Charles, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, works to support our athletes by setting up a National Sports Medicine Unit.
