Haiti - Environment : First meeting of the National Committee for the Fight Against Climate Change (Video PM)
Thursday, December 8, 2022, World Climate Day, the National Committee on Climate Change (CNCC), chaired by Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, presented the document of the National Adaptation Plan (PNA) at its official residence during the very first meeting of the Committee. This activity took place in the presence, among others, of Ministers James Cadet (Environment), Brédy Charlot (Agriculture), the Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China) Wen Jiann KU, Nick René Hartmann Resident Representative of the United Nations for Development (UNDP - Haiti), representatives of civil society, technical and financial partners and public administration executives.

Excerpts from the PM's speech :
“[...] The National Adaptation Plan is intended to be a comprehensive medium-and long-term framework, over the next ten years, and primarily covers the sectors of agriculture, health, infrastructure and resources. in water.

I want to renew my Government's determination to take the issue of climate change into consideration. To this end, we will spare no effort by opening up to technical and technological progress made both locally and elsewhere.

[...] We want to lay the foundations for a viable and sustainable society following a vision ranging from the mountains to the sea which prioritizes, among other things, the reduction of vulnerability and the environmental divide aggravated by climate change. All this from a pragmatic and coherent environmental governance [...]




In his speech, the Minister of the Environment insisted on the importance of the CNCC. "The National Committee on Climate Change is an inter-institutional and intersectoral body whose objective is to ensure the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of policies, programs and national action plans concerning climate change."

Nick René Hartmann, UNDP Resident Representative in Haiti, explained that the National Adaptation Plan of Haiti aims to guide Haiti towards sustainable adaptation actions and relevant mechanisms to help the country, in the medium and long term, to emerge from its situation of great vulnerability in the face of these disasters. "I reiterate our commitment to the Haitian Government for the dissemination and adoption of a financing strategy as an associated tool for the mobilization of resources, while calling on other actors (technical and financial) to mobilize to find resources. estimated at 980 million dollars, necessary for the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan."
