Haiti - Education : Streamlined procedures for the accreditation of non-public schools 23/12/2013 11:16:00 Now, obtaining a license to non-public schools will no longer be a difficult and complicated long runs. It will take just a few weeks, thanks to new streamlined procedures for the completion of the process that will be done through the Departmental Directorates of Education (DDE). "This action is part of the Ministry's efforts to improve the governance of the education system through better control of non-public schools," stated Jean Wilnor Pierre, the Director of the Directorate of Support to the Private Education and Partnership (DAEPP), noting that this initiative was twofold : 1) Affirm the Ministry's will to take provisions that are needed to remove barriers that lined the whole process of the accreditation process; 2) Show to the Directors and Principals of non-public schools that operate illegally on the territory that accreditation will no longer be complicated once compliance with established standards. Jean Wilnor Pierre declared that the DAEPP "Wants to mark a break with the practices centralized in order to provide quality service and of proximity. It is now up to the departmental directors to process and finalize the accreditation application files that can be done online [internet] "[Note that accredited schools are evaluated on three aspects : physical, administrative and teaching] For his part, Denis Cadeau, the Director General of the Ministry who was speaking on behalf of the Minister Vanneur Pierre, noted that the Ministry would implement a series of measures to enforce standards of opening and operation of non-public schools, who wish to contribute to the effort of youth mentoring "The ultimate goal is to allow all non-public schools to hold an accreditation certificate (license, permit or permit of continuation of operations) by the end of 2015, in accordance with prescribed of the Operational Plan." For Denis Cadeau, "It is inconceivable that a effective of 14.162 educational establishments 6,631 have not yet produced a certification application. Worse, only a third of schools having filed an application are accredited [...] A situation that shows the magnitude of the challenges and which must interpellate all stakeholders in the system." According to Mr. Cadeau, the license granted symbolizes "a shared commitment between the state and citizens to provide quality education in material conditions in accordance with the standards. This is a delegation of power granted to individuals responsible for providing a public service to the children of Haiti, because education is a public good and children are neither private nor public."
