Haiti - Economy : Slowing inflation in Haiti (November 2013)

The slower pace of price increases continued during the month of November 2013. The level of the General Index Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) for the month of November 2013, undergoes a slight increase from 210.1 in October 2013, to 210.3 in November. Month on month inflation rose +0.1% in November [+0.2% in the previous month) for a 4.2% yoy.

The monthly increase is the result of consumption functions "Clothing and Textile Shoes" (+0.2%), "Development, Equipment and Maintenance Housing" (+0.3%) and "Other goods and services" (+0.2%).

By cons, functions like "Food, Beverages and Tobacco," "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" and "Health" have almost stagnated with a respective increase of 0.1% and the stagnation of the "Transportation" function. These functions are to the origin of the slowdown in inflation observed in November.

Note that the increase in function "Clothing and Textile Shoes" is resulting from the prices of the fabric (+0.4%), pants for men (+0.3%) and sandals (+0.3%).

For its part, the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" function has stalled due to lower prices displayed by products such as bread (-0.5%), millet (-0.1%), lawyer (-0.6% ), green peas (-0.2%), dry pea (-0.1%), orange (-0.4%), grapefruit (-1.8%), yam (-0.5%), potatoes (-0.7%) and lemon (-6.6%). Other products with a relatively high weight in the feed function have experienced very little increase of 0.1%. This are, among others, rice, wheat flour, spaghetti, egg, edible oil and sugar.

Moreover, the price of kerosene and charcoal have also stagnated and that of propane decreased -0.1% are at the base of the deceleration of the "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" function.
