Haiti - Politic : Assessment of communal projects (2012-2013)

The Office of Communication of the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE) has taken stock of the projects and infrastructure works in the framework of the implementation of Communal Fund through the ten departments of the country, indicating that 150 projects, in phase of completion, have been submitted for the fiscal year 2012-2013.

Public facilities, public infrastructure, civil protection, the protection and management of the environment and cultural facilities, are the five categories of eligible projects within the funding framework of Communal Fund, said the Minister of Planning, Laurent Lamothe.

Three contractors are in charge of these works for the exercise 2012-2013 : the Office of Monetization of Development Assistance Program (98 projects), the MPCE (22 projects) and the Ministry of Public Works (17 projects).

Note that these projects are supported unconditionally and of the signature of mayors, deputies, senators and departmental delegates.

List of Projects (2012-2013) :

  • 45 projects were submitted as part of the electrification of communes ;

  • 33 as part of Roads infrastructure ;

  • 22 Markets / Public Places ;

  • 15 as part of school infrastructure (schools/Lycées) ;

  • 14 Health Centres / Dispensaries ;

  • 6 socio-cultural spaces ;

  • 6 ambulances ;

  • 4 infrastructure drinking water / sanitation ;

  • 3 construction and rehabilitation of houses in disadvantaged neighborhoods ;

  • 2 Agricultural infrastructure.

The Minister of Planning, Laurent Salvador Lamothe, did not hide his satisfaction on the smooth running of the projects submitted, which also helped to put the population of each of these communes at work, urged local elected municipal, to contribute more in the development of projects according to the needs of their region for the 2013-2014 exercise recalling that an envelope of 10 million gourdes is allocated to each of the 140 communes.
