Haiti - Tourism : The Tourism Minister welcomes the decision of the U.S. Department of Defense 07/01/2014 10:59:34
Following the announcement last Friday of the decision the U.S. Department of Defence to no longer consider Haiti as an Imminent Danger Areas from June 1, 2014 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10241-haiti-security-haiti-will-no-longer-be-designated-as-imminent-danger-areas.html , Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, welcomed the decision on behalf of the tourism sector "We see in this decision the first results of ongoing efforts of the Government of Haiti to positively change the perception of the country internationally [...] We encourage the maintenance of a climate of stability in the country and encourage compatriots to join us in this campaign to reposition Haiti on the international tourism map." Recall that in 2012, a study of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime USA (UNODC) established that Haiti was one of the safest destinations, not only in the Caribbean but also throughout America https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7543-haiti-security-false-ideas-about-insecurity.html Moreover, according to the latest global rankings on tourism competitiveness published on 20 March by the World Economic Forum (WEF) Haiti is among the 140 touristic competitors in the world https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8221-haiti-tourism-haiti-enters-in-the-global-tourism-competitiveness-ranking.html . Results that have marked, according to the Minister of Tourism, the return of Haiti on the international tourism scene, along with the presence of Haiti as a destination in prestigious brochures such as the Canadian tour operator Transat https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7663-haiti-tourism-vacation-packages-in-haiti-by-air-transat.html See also : HL/ HaitiLibre
